The Chief, Imaging Health Care Group (HCG) Service is responsible for the overall management, planning, organization, direction, and control of all programs within the Imaging HCG. The Chief, Imaging HCG is responsible for fiscal oversight, patient satisfaction, patient care delivery, research activities, and appropriate interface with all other services of the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. The incumbent is engaged in facility and HCG-level strategic, operational, and tactical planning.

The major duties of this position include but are not limited to:

• Participates as a member and/or leader of Imaging and VALBHS-wide committees responsible for peer review, accreditation, and systems redesign and quality improvement projects, as assigned by the Office of the Chief of Staff.

• Provides direct patient care in his/her specialty area approximately 20-30% of the time; which includes, evaluating and prioritizing radiology orders, ordering and evaluating appropriate laboratory studies, protocoling and approving complex imaging exams, notifying providers of critical imaging results.
• Supervises on-board personnel, evaluates prospective new hires, oversees compliance with all applicable regulations, addresses patient complaints, credentialing and peer-review issues, and inquiries and investigations from Congress, the White House, VA Central Office, and national investigative bodies.
• Completes all VA reports on each patient examined to include appropriate CPT codes and diagnosis.
• Functions part-time as a Radiology-Educator for medical and other health care trainees including students, resident physicians, and fellows as part of his/her duties as a member of the department.

The Section Chief provides overall management and leadership to the Section and will:

• Manage Section 5 of HAS including:
  • Providing supervision to three (3) subordinate supervisors, as well as other staff, as/when needed.
  • Oversight over Outpatient/inpatient Scheduling for the Emergency Department, Inpatient Ward, Admissions and Discharge Department.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
The incumbent will serve as Section Chief for Section 5 (Outpatient Medical Administration Services) in the Health Administration Service (HAS). The incumbent provides a high level of administrative support to HAS and upper management and clinical services. The primary supervisory function of this position is to provide leadership in the Outpatient Clinic and Centralized Scheduling. The position will provide support to the HAS training program, Office of HAS and to supervisors and Leads within the section. As a first line supervisor, the incumbent approves, develops performance standards, describes position descriptions, completes annual performance appraisals, take appropriate action as it relates to performance and conduct, interviews and hires new employees, plans, assigns, instructs and evaluates employee's work.

As the resident expert in clinical informatics and health IT, the CHIO serves as the primary advisor to the Medical Center Director, Chief of Staff, Associate Director, and other facility leaders.
